States: Game 3 vs Mathews

Bridgewater won it's 10th straight Major Girls Softball game versus Mathews in the winners bracket semi-finals today in Heathsville, VA. It was a tough fought game with Bridgewater plating their third and winning run of the game in the top of the 6th to defeat Mathews 3 to 2 and advancing to the winners bracket final. Bridgewater led off the game with Cana Davis reaching first on a dropped third strike, being sacrificed from first to third on a bunt by Katrina Martin. Ocean Burriss then laid down a bunt scoring Davis while ending up on second on an overthrow to first. Peggie Michael then had an rbi single to score Burriss, giving visiting Bridgewater a 2 to 0 lead in the top
of the first. In the bottom half of the first pitcher Peggie Michael walked Mathews lead off hitter Keely Crittenden who later scored on a hit by Madison South to end the scoring in the first inning with Bridgewater leading 2 to 1. In the top of the second after two quick outs Cana Davis reached first on a drag bunt followed by a hit up the middle from Katrina Martin to threaten, but Mathews was able to get the third out of the inning stranding Davis and Martin. In the bottom of the second Bridgewater got two quick outs, followed by three unlikely errors and a hit batter to give Mathews their second and final run of the game. Bridgewater stranded one runner in the top of the third
as did Matthews in the bottom of the third. Matthews stranded another in the fourth, while in the fifth Bridgewater stranded Peggie Michael on third after a two out double. Mathews stranded a runner on second in the bottom of the fifth. Setting up the final inning of regulation for the event. This will set up a rematch from two years ago state finals between Bridgewater and Mechanicsville who is also in the winners bracket. This game will be played at 10am on Tuesday, July 17th.
