States: Game 5 vs Mathews

Bridgewater outlasted Mathews in a 7 to 4 victory to get back into the championship game versus Mechanicsville. Mathews scored one run in the top of the first on a hit batter followed by a stolen base and a double by clean-up hitter Alexis Miles. Bridgewater answered in the bottom of the 1st when Cana Davis was hit by pitch, stole second and third, and scored on a ground ball back to third by Katrina Martin who reached first on the fielders choice then later scored on a deep fly ball sacrifice by Peggie Michael ending the scoring
for the 1st inning. In the top of the second lead off batter Taylor Locey walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch, then later in the inning Rileigh Betz walked and scored on a hit from Kelly Crittenden to plate 2 runs for Mathews. Bridgewater countered in the bottom of the second when Torie Shifflett and Hannah Cook had back to back hits to lead off the inning followed by sacrifice bunts by Faith Farley and Cana Davis to score both runs. Mathews hitter Madison South led off the top of the third with a hit and scored later in the inning on a fielders choice then Mathews held Bridgewater scoreless in the bottom of the third tying the game at 4 runs apiece. Bridgewater then scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning after a lead off triple by Cana Davis who then had to dive back to third on a line drive that was trapped by Mathews third baseman from Katrina Martin who advanced to second on the play. Peggie Michael had a sacrifice bunt to load the bases followed by a walk to Alli Bosley pushing across the first run of the inning. This left bases loaded
for Macey Hess who turned on an inside fastball driving a double down the third base line scoring Martin and Michael to tack on 2 more insurance runs. Michael then took the mound forcing a pop-up to short for the first out, a ground ball to third for the second out, then walked the next batter who tried to steal second and was gunned down by Faith Farley for the final out of the game. Offensively, Bridgewater had hits from Cana Davis, Katrina Martin, Ocean Burriss, Alli Bosley, Macey Hess, Torie Shifflett, Brittany Corbin, and Hannah Cook with sacrifices from Cana Davis, Faith Farley and Peggie Michael with two.
